Prof. Claudia Dellavia, PhD

Claudia Dellavia, DDS, PhD, is Full Professor of Human Anatomy at the University of Milan and Director of the Ground Sections Laboratory. She teaches Human Anatomy across medical, dental and healthcare degree programmes. Her research focuses on the functional anatomy of the stomatognathic system, dental and periodontal tissue microscopy, oral disease epidemiology and tissue regeneration.

Teaching and coordinating Human Anatomy courses for undergraduate programmes in Midwifery, Orthopaedic Techniques, Podiatry and Dental Hygiene.

Teaching Human Anatomy within the Master’s Degree programmes in Dentistry and Medicine and Surgery, including the international medical programme.

Teaching within the postgraduate Schools of Dental Surgery, Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics at the University of Milan.

Member of the teaching faculty of the PhD Programme in Clinical Research at the University of Milan.

Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Dental Hygiene from 2017 to 2023.

Research Activities

Director of the Ground Sections Laboratory at the Department of Biomedical, Surgical and Dental Sciences, University of Milan.

Research focused on the gross and functional anatomy of the stomatognathic system, microscopy of dental and periodontal tissues, and the epidemiology of oral diseases.

Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator in research projects concerning biomaterials, periodontal regeneration, gingival microcirculation, antimicrobial nanofibres, oral health and dental education.

Recipient of the SIdP Board of Periodontology and Implantology recognition in 2021.

Recipient of awards for scientific posters concerning gingival stem cells and antimicrobial implant coatings.

Contributor to the project The University Goes to Kindergarten, which received recognition at the Italian WHO Healthy Cities Health Awards in 2019.

Recipient of the Henry M. Goldman Prize in 2003.
