
Prof. Ivelina Gancheva Ivanova, MD, PhD
Ivelina Gancheva Ivanova, MD, PhD, is Chief Assistant Professor of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine of Trakia University. A medical doctor specialised in Pulmonology and in Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, she teaches Anatomy, Cytology, Histology, Embryology and Clinical Anatomy. Her research focuses on pulmonary morphology, mast cells, neuroimmune mechanisms and their role in inflammatory, fibrotic and neoplastic lung diseases.

Teaching Anatomy to first- and second-year medical students and Cytology, Histology and Embryology to first-year medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Trakia University.

Research focused on the histochemical, immunohistochemical and quantitative characterisation of mast cells in the human and rat lung.
Comparative analysis of tryptase-positive, ghrelin-positive and metachromatic mast cells in the airways, alveoli, pleura and pulmonary blood vessels across different age groups.
Investigation of the role of immune and neuroimmune cells in pulmonary homeostasis and in the pathogenesis of allergic, inflammatory, fibrotic and neoplastic lung diseases.
